The national series started last weekend at Manfield and we set off on Friday night for the long drive with a lot of excitement. I had been waiting for this weekend to come for a long time now.
I was really confident going into the weekend we would have a positive result and while we had a couple of issues over the weekend I was pleased to finish where we did.
Saturday practice went pretty well with Johnathan and I trying a f ew different setups to try and get the car as stable through the corners as possible.
Qualifying on Sunday morning was a real challenge because I just couldn’t seem to draft like the front guys could and with a few laps to go in the session my oil line came off and big clouds of smoke came from my motor. It was a big relief when Johnathan told me it was just the oil line because I thought I had blown my motor up. I ended up finishing the session in 9th which was not great but I knew we could race well.
The wheel to wheel racing was great fun through all three races and I had some great battles with Aaron Crighton and Cameron Dance. I was pumped going into turn 1 and Pepsi every lap two and three cars wide fighting for every position. I finished the races in 10th, 8th & 7th and am now running 7th overall in the series out of 17 competitors
I am now really excited about round 2 coming up at Taupo on 31st Oct / 1st Nov as it is a really technical track and hard to get every corner right for a good lap time. We did a really good test at Taupo on Wednesday and we tried a lot of different things and we think we have found the problem we have been having with the car. We have not been able to show our true pace yet but hopefully with this now fixed we will be strong at Taupo in two weeks.
I would like to thank Dennis, Jonathan and Peter for coming up to Taupo yesterday for the testing session and also to the Speedsport Scholarship Trust, my sponsors, Chicane Racewear, Race Brakes, Quality Tyres , Sierra Motor Company and Cyrus International Cargo – Thanks, Liam
