Hampton Downs was a pretty good weekend for me as I got my fourth podium of this year.
During a hot Saturday Morning Qualifying I managed to put the car in the top 5 for the third time this season (5th). Race 1 didn’t exactly go to plan as we dropped a position to 6th after a hard fought race.
Race 2 on Sunday morning was again scorching hot! Unfortunately we did not have the pace for the leaders again and dropped to 7th.
Going into Race 3 we were determined to get a better result and with the rain coming down it was looking good for us… However with the extreme temperatures we experienced on the weekend it dried up by the time we had hit the track and unfortunately we had wet tires on and a wet setup. Although the changes we made on the car for the wet setup got rid of our under steer and we had great pace relative to the guys on the wet tires and even the dry tires. It was looking good for another podium as I lined up a draft on Arran Crighton coming to the line but I was squeezed off the track and crossed the line fourth. Following a protest which we later won, we were awarded the podium as Arran Received a 15 second penalty. I remain 5th in the championship, 72 points off a top three championship result.
Thanks very much to Giles Motorsport, Natan Latham and Devlin DeFrancesco for letting me into your garage and better yet letting me sit in your car. Also thanks to the team for making my car fell more like a TRS car by installing a “Motec dash and Flappy Paddle gearbox”. I’d also like to say a huge thanks to Kenny smith for all his help, support and advice to me over the weekend. Also thanks to everyone else who I met over the weekend, its was great meeting you all. Once again a massive thanks to all my sponsors who are the reason I’m racing so please support them as they support me, Speedsport Scholarship, Sabre Motorsport, Grant McDonald, Jonathan my engineer, Paul Manual for his advice, Chicane Racewear, Arai Helmets, Quality Tyres, Sierra Motor Company, 0800 Race Brakes, Cyrus International Cargo, Alistair at Formula Fit and Counties Fitness for keeping me on the track.
